Nearly 50 families have moved into newly renovated homes in Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i’s (MCBH) Pa Honua neighborhood, where ‘Ohana Military Communities invested over $30 million to transform the interiors of 223 residences.
Pa Honua is home to more than 450 junior enlisted Marines and their families. Housing for junior enlisted personnel is a significant part of ‘Ohana Military Communities’ portfolio. It is committed to providing those members of the armed forces with comfortable homes during their service on O‘ahu.
“We are proud of our successful partnership with MCBH, and the Pa Honua project exemplifies our mission to continuously pursue and develop quality housing for our military members,” said Jeffrey Choi, Vice President of ‘Ohana Military Communities. “The beautifully upgraded homes at Pa Honua have set a new standard of excellence.”
In late April, ‘Ohana Military Communities celebrated the completion of the first newly renovated homes. In addition to the first four families to occupy renovated homes, ‘Ohana Military Communities welcomed staff from the MCBH Family Housing Office, NAVFAC Hawai‘i, Unlimited Construction Services, Inc. and Hunt Building Company, the construction manager.
New resident Sgt. Alexia Vargas was among those in attendance at the event. “Being one of the first residents to live in a newly renovated home is a blessing,” she said. “With that blessing comes daily appreciation and awareness of how this home will be passed on to someone else who deserves the same clean, new, high-quality home that I have received.”
Pa Honua units will have LED lighting, upgraded kitchens and baths, durable hardwood cabinets and Corian countertops, vinyl plank flooring and energy-saving appliances.
Homes are being renovated as they become unoccupied. The project will be completed by late 2025.
